History of Crime Stoppers
The Crime Stoppers program was the brainchild of Canadian-born Detective Greg MacAleese in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1976.
The BC Crime Stoppers Association became a reality in 1994 as the provincial voice for the 43 member programs across the province. As the first programs formed in 1982 and the numbers grew in the following decades the provincial association became a necessity and then a reality.
The BC Board is made up of Directors elected from the member programs.
The BC Board is responsible for province wide issues such as promotions, insurance, legal issues, policy, logo and name rights as well as gathering cumulative statistics.
